The DeSoto Citizen Police Academy is a comprehensive 11-week course designed to provide those 21 years of age or older who live or work in the City of DeSoto a working knowledge of the Police Department.
The objective of the program is to provide citizens with information to eliminate misconceptions concerning the DeSoto Police Department, its policies and procedures, and the criminal justice system in general. Citizens are given the opportunity to experience hands-on learning, see information not available to the general public, tour the police station and jail facilities, and to ask questions and express concerns.
This two-way communication has proven to be an effective way to accomplish the goal of improving rapport between the police and the citizens of DeSoto.
This class is a prerequisite to joining two of our other volunteer programs, the DeSoto Citizens Police Academy Alumni Association and the C.O.P. (Citizens On Patrol).
