DeSoto Civic Academy
How to become a member of the DeSoto Civic Academy
This program is designed to give citizens a behind-the-scenes look at the City of DeSoto. There are 11 weekly sessions hosted by a department, each trying to compete with the last.

Follow this link to view a video featuring former Civic Academy graduates sharing their experiences with the program.

What will I learn?
The first session is hosted by the City Manager's Office in true Hollywood-style with an Opening Night theme. Administration staff serve dinner while participants learn how local government and City Manager's Office operates.

Class will then visit the Police Department where participants tour the facility, operate a radar gun and walk through shoot/don't shoot scenarios.

Development Services has many activities to offer during their class. This night is full of everything from driving the street sweeper to learning what it takes to have water every time we turn the faucet on.
There are many other fascinating departments, but you will have to sign up to see for yourself.
