James Zander, Place 7 Councilmember, was elected in June 2010 in a special run-off election and again in May 2012, and is serving his first full term on the DeSoto City Council. He is a 23 year resident of DeSoto, and is married to Linda Zander. He has been involved in the local community for many years and has served on the boards of the DeSoto Economic Development Corporation, DeSoto Dining and Dialogue, Economic Impact for DeSoto, City Charter Review Committee, City Comprehensive Plan, DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, and the DeSoto ISD Education Foundation. He received the distinguished Alumni Award in 2006 from the University of New Haven and he lectures though out TX on ACA Health Care Reform.
As Place Seven’s City Councilmember, Mr. Zander will work to increase economic development by helping to attract businesses to DeSoto, which ultimately should create jobs and increase the tax base and tax revenues of the City. He will lend his support to the DeSoto Police Department to help keep the neighborhoods and community safe, and he will work to increase the efficiency of City operations.
Mr. Zander is a man of integrity and passion and he truly cares about the community as has been demonstrated during his appearances at City Council and Planning and Zoning meetings speaking publicly on behalf of the citizens of DeSoto. He is a problem solver, and his goal is to be accessible to the constituents and listen to their concerns, ideas, and challenges. By doing so, he believes that the openness and caring demeanor of a public servant can create and foster a real sense of community and unity. He recognizes that the citizens are proud of DeSoto and that their quality of life and the quality of services provided by the City are important reasons why they live in DeSoto. He vows to focus to preserve the quality of life for DeSoto’s citizens.
He is the owner of James Zander & Associates Insurance and has been in business for 30 years. His wife is a retired interior designer, and now is the CFO of James Zander & Associates. She is a very committed citizen of DeSoto serving as the Past President of Keep DeSoto Beautiful, Board Member of the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce, Best Southwest Chamber and Leadership Southwest, and the DeSoto Arts Commission. They both enjoy meeting people and spending quality time with family and friends.
