Ms. Valentine currently serves as the Council liaison to the Planning and Zoning Commission and the Arts Commission. She also serves as a representative on the North Central Texas Council of Governments Resource Conservation Council. She currently serves on the board of the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce and is Chair of their Government Committee.

She and her husband, Wayne have four children and four grandchildren and have lived in DeSoto since 1994. Ms. Valentine retired from Lucent Technologies as Director of Installation Services in 2001 and is now the owner and operator of Braids by Niecy. 

Ms. Valentine’s community activities include serving as past president of DeSoto Dining & Dialogue, is a former Planning and Zoning Commissioner, served on the Zoning Board of Adjustment, the DeSoto High School Vision Committee, and is a 2003 graduate of Leadership Southwest. She has served on the Advisory Board for United Way Blueprint for Leadership and on the Mental Health Association Board. She is a member of Crossroads Covenant Church and is Board Emeritus of AIDS Arms. She recently accepted a position on the Advisory Council of Brighter Tomorrows. Ms. Valentine was named 2006 Citizen of the Year by the DeSoto Chamber of Commerce.
