Curbside Recycling

Click here to view a video which explains DeSoto's residential and commercial curbside recycling program.

Residential Recycling
DeSoto offers a curbside recycling program for all residents. Recycle bins are available from the water billing department at a cost of $5 each. New residents receive one bin when they turn on their water service. If you have more than fits into the bin, it is recommended that you use clear or blue plastic bags for additional recycle items. These bags can be purchased at local stores.

Items that can be placed in the recycle bin include:

  • Plastic - Numbers 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 7
  • Glass - All colors of glass bottles can be recycled. Bottles only. No plate glass, ceramic or mirrors.
  • Metal - All metal (tin/aluminum) food and beverage cans can be recycled. It’s not necessary to remove the label, but please remove the lids and rinse out all food waste. No aluminum foil.
  • Newspapers, Catalogs, Magazines, Junk mail, Cardboard and Mixed Household Paper - Place all household paper products in a brown paper grocery sack and put beside or inside your bin. These loose paper products need to be separate from other materials in your bin.
    • No tissues, wet paper or paper contaminated with food products are accepted.
    • All cardboard must be broken down to a size that will fit inside your recycle bin. Larger boxes can be placed under your recycle bin. Only flattened boxes will be accepted.

Please note: Recycling is picked up on Wednesday by Duncan Disposal and then transported to Republic Service Recycling Center for the separation and recycling process.

Commercial Recycling
If you are currently a commercial customer for solid waste and you would like to have your recycling collected, please call 972.225.5252 to request the service.

Once initiated, you will receive information about the initial set-up, billing and pricing information. You'll also be provided with one 95-gallon polycart to hold your recycled items. The basic recycling charge is $30 per month for the first cart. Additional carts can be provided at a fee of $10 per month/per cart.

Customers are responsible for bagging their recycled material in a clear or blue bag (available at local stores) prior to placing it in the cart for collection. Bagged contents must weigh less than 35 lbs. per bagged unit. Bagging of the materials to be recycled helps avoid contamination problems.

Wednesday is the designated day for recycling throughout DeSoto and materials must be placed curbside by 7 a.m. for collection.

Items that can be placed in the recycle bin include:
1. Newspaper (should be tied & bundled)
2. Mixed paper or high grade office paper
3. Corrugated paper (boxes have to be flattened or cut to a maximum  size of 3x3 ft. tied & bundled
4. Glass bottles (rinsed out)
5. Plastics & Aluminum (rinsed out)
