DeSoto Fire Rescue offers EMT-Basic (Emergency Medical Technician-Basic) classes for individuals interested in a career in the fire/EMS service. This is a Texas Department of Health-approved course, which, upon completion, will enable an individual to meet or exceed the necessary qualifications of employment with many fire/EMS departments.

EMT-Basic classes include three weeks of classroom instruction, a hospital rotation and a fire department rotation. It covers all the required EMT-Basic subjects, including:

- Bandaging & Splinting
- Spinal Immobilization
