DeSoto Mayor, Carl Sherman and the Library help teens find employment

The City of DeSoto, the DeSoto Public Library, and Mayor Carl Sherman invited local employers to participate in the MAYOR’S TEEN CAREER / JOB FAIR at the  3nd Annual DeSoto Public Library Teen Empowerment Summit at the DeSoto Civic Center Wednesday, March 12, 2014 through Friday, March 14, 2014. The library partnered with Mayor Carl Sherman to offer teens who are 16 years or older and pass an assessment, the opportunity to obtain the Mayor’s Teen Excellence Job Readiness Certification. Teens are equipped for the Teen Career Fair by attending professional workshop sessions on a variety of topics, including resume writing, interview skills, premier customer service, work ethics, effective communication, and social networking and branding.

Local employers were asked to save at least one or two  jobs or provide one or two three-week paid or non-paid internships for youths in our community, and to attend the Mayor’s Teen Career Fair to interview teens for these jobs or positions. This is a great opportunity for local businesses to give back to their community and to invest in our youth. A job helps youths prepare for the real world, teaches them responsibility, and helps them develop a work ethic.

There is a $10 non-refundable registration fee.

Click here to register. For more information, please contact Ms. Marq Runnels at 972-230-9663.

Our GOAL/MISSION is to foster a community where youth and teens are valued, inspired, and empowered to become their best as contributing members of society by providing youths and teens with opportunities to learn and practice leadership, citizenship, and life skills.
