Frequently Asked Questions
How do I get on to the Internet/Word Processor?
You must log in to the public PCs with your 14-digit library card number. Walk up to any available PC and click the mouse. Click on the highlighted "AVAILABLE", type in your library card number, and click OK. Then click "Use this computer".

What if I forgot my card or don't have a library card?
If you are a resident of the City of DeSoto, you may apply for a free library card at the check out desk during normal business hours. You will need to provide valid identification and proof of residency. If you have lost your library card, you may purchase a $3.00 replacement card. If you are not a resident of the City of DeSoto, you may purchase a library card for $15.00 per year or purchase a PC pass for $1.00 per hour at the check out desk. Bring the PC pass to the Adult Reference Desk.

What do I do if all PCs are in use?
If all PCs are in use, you can make a reservation for the next available PC by logging in at the Reservation station near the Adult Reference Desk. A reservation receipt will be printed, which will tell you what time and which computer will be available for your login.

How much time do I get?
Internet sessions are 60 minutes. The computer will give you a warning before you are logged out. If there are no other patrons waiting, you may be offered a 15 minute extension. You may continue to use the same PC as long as there are no reservations on it and there is no limit to the number of sessions per day. The PCs will automatically shut-down at 15 minutes before closing each day.

My reservation is gone. What happened?
Reservations will self-cancel if you are 10 minutes late by "the reservation clock". The short grace period is to allow for differences in clocks and watches so please be on-time for your reservation. If your reservation is gone, you can log-in to any other available PC using your library card or make a reservation at the PRINT RELEASE and RESERVATION station for "the next available" PC.

Can I reserve a PC for a future time?
You may make a reservation for a later time (the same day). Your receipt will alert you to the PC name and number and the time of your reservation.
