Meet K9 Officer Arsen

IMG_4631-Edit2.jpg

Arsen is a very active Belgian Malinois that was born November 2012. In January 2014, the DeSoto Police Department purchased Arsen from Police Service Dogs, Inc. located in Oxford, FL. In February 2014, Arsen and his handler attended a six week handler/K9 course in Ellis County. After completing this course Arsen was certified as a single purpose patrol dog. As a single purpose dog, Arsen's duties are; tracking for suspects/critical missing persons, building searches, evidence searches, handler protection and suspect apprehension. Since Arsen's initial certification, he has become a member of the United States Police Canine Association (USPCA). The USPCA is the "oldest and largest organizations of its kind". To maintain his status as an active member, Arsen has to attend the USPCA K9 trials each year and pass. During the week- long trial, Arsen is judged on obedience, agility, evidence search, building searches, tracking, handler protection and apprehension work. Arsen lives with his handler, Officer P. Hammel, and his family at their home. When Arsen's not at work he likes to play, play, play!
