DeSoto Night Out

DeSoto Night Out
Since 1984, the first Tuesday in August of each year has been designated as a special community night out against crime. This special night involves citizens, City officials, law enforcement agencies, civic groups, businesses, and neighborhood organizations from communities throughout the United States and Canada. The City of DeSoto has designated the first Tuesday in August as DESOTO NIGHT OUT. This special night is designed to:

* Heighten crime prevention efforts and community awareness;
* Generate support for, and participation in, local anticrime programs;
* Strengthen neighborhood spirit and police - community partnerships; and
* Send a message to criminals letting them know that neighborhoods are organized and fighting back.

Homes are recommended to have their outdoor lights on, particularly during the hours of 7 to 9 p.m. People are asked to come out of their homes, apartments and condos to meet and become acquainted with their neighbors. Neighborhoods, often working through their Neighborhood Watch Group, are greatly encouraged to plan special activities, such as:

_ Block parties, cookouts and ice cream socials
_ Visits from local police;
_ Contests games; and
_ Youth programs.

Your neighborhood group is encouraged to participate in this annual event.
