A new grant‐funded Transportation Program was made available for low‐to moderate income DeSoto residents beginning January 1, 2018 and continues today. The program provides the following for applicants who meet HUD eligibility:
- Taxi cab transportation for essential services including doctor appointments, trips to the grocery store or pharmacy, etc.
- Eligible participants will be given a card voucher providing $100 per month for transportation in the Dallas and Ellis County area.
Those wishing to participate are encouraged to email Transportation@desototexas.gov or call 972.230.7350 for more information. That number receives voicemails only. Please leave a message and your call will be returned within 24 hours.
The City of DeSoto is serviced by Star Transit's Route 501. This includes area industrial parks with stops located at the Kohl’s e-Fulfillment Center and Wal-Mart Distribution. The route also accesses Methodist Charlton Medical Center and the UNT Dallas Station on the DART Rail Blue Line. This route provides connectivity between DeSoto and cities located in the inland port area with transfer points at The Crossing Shopping Center and the UNT Dallas Station on the Hutchins Shuttle Route 401.
Route 501 is available to the public. Whether you need transportation to work, a doctor’s appointment, to run errands or you are looking for affordable college bus routes, STAR Transit has you covered.
No reservations are required. There are set pick up and drop off times for this service. Riders should be at their stops and prepared to board three to five minutes before the scheduled departure time.
